Sport is an important part of the Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½. All students have exposure to a range of fitness, skill development and game sense activities in the Health and Physical Education curriculum. House carnivals are important opportunities for our students to participate in swimming, athletic and cross country events. A wide range of sports are offered to cater for the diversity of students’ interests and abilities.

Basketball

Junior

The Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ enters junior teams in the Launceston based NHSSA competition, catering for students in Years 7-10. Games

are held Thursdays after school during Term 3 and 4. Subject to coach availability and the discretion of the Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½, students who participate in co-curricular Basketball for the Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ may be given the opportunity to participate in the northern and potentially State High Schools Basketball Championships.

Senior
The Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ enters teams in the NSATIS Senior 1sts, 2nds and 3rds competitions depending on the number of players and team spots available in the rosters.

Games are played after school in Term 1 and against the

North West teams during school hours on Wednesdays.

Cricket

Junior

Cricket is played over Term 1 and 4 for Years 7 and 8.

Senior
Cricket is played Term 1 only, while practice commences in Term 4 for the following year.

Practice is held at the Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ after school while games are usually held on Saturdays. The Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ provides a full kit of equipment at all grades of competition.

Girls and Boys 20/20 Cricket
Teams may be entered in the NHSSA competitions for Year 9/10 boys and for Year 7-10 girls and take place in Terms 1 and 4. Year 7/8 girls also have the opportunity to be involved in the T20 Blast competition organised by Cricket Tasmania. This is a regional tournament held on a school day with the top two teams in each region advancing to the state final.

Equestrian

Students compete in several events throughout the duration of the year. Equestrian is not a ‘rostered’ sport, however the Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ does compete in approximately five events. These are generally school based competitions. Students are required to have their own equipment for this sport.

Mountain Biking

Students train and compete in Terms 1 and 4. Training is held after school and competition is on Wednesdays with the Launceston Mountain Bike Club during their season. St Patrick's Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ is also recognised as a School of Excellence by Mountain Bike Australia. Furthermore, Mountain Biking is part of the Talented Athlete Program for Senior students - a course that offers an introduction into sport-specific knowledge and training.

Rowing

The season starts in October each year and finishes in April.

Generally, Year 7s and new students to rowing will be inducted in Term 1 and commence rowing in Term 4. Training can be a combination of before-school, after-school and weekend sessions. Levies apply to each student who enrols in rowing. Students compete as members of St Patrick’s Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ Rowing.

Swimming

The Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ competes in the NSATIS and SATIS carnivals which are held in March. The Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ House based carnival is the primary selection method for the representative Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ team. While it is a short season it is intense with training sessions before and after school.

Tennis

Tennis is played as an NSATIS sport in Term 1 with the 1sts and 2nds playing against all Independent schools in the north of the state. The 3rds, 4ths and 5ths play against Launceston based schools only. Practice nights vary while roster games can be played on Wednesday, Friday or Saturday depending on the division.

The Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ Athletics team participates in the Northern and State Carnivals in September with school based training sessions starting in early Term 3. The Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ invites ‘outside’ accredited coaches to assist in the preparation of the team. The team is selected on the results of the Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ House based carnival and in addition to this, students may be selected for the ‘Schools Knockout’ athletics event, a statewide all schools event.

Badminton

An NSATIS competition that sees games played Mondays after school and practice at Friday lunch times. We currently enter a team in the 1sts competition.

Cross Country

The Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ competes in the State All Schools championships in June or July at Symmons Plains. The NSATIS shields are determined at this event. The selection trials for the representative team is the Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ Carnival which is held in Term 2.

Football

Football is available to all boys Years 7-12. Senior rosters are currently played in the SATIS competition. Practice is held at the Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ after school on weekdays and games are played Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Year 7/8 Football is part of the Wellbeing program and is played Thursday afternoons during school hours.

Girls football is offered as an SATIS rostered sport with strong interest in the team.

Hockey

The Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ offers hockey for Years 7-12 boys and girls. All practice sessions are after school at the St Leonards hockey centre on Tuesdays with a bus provided to the venue from the Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½. Games are played on designated nights after school and/or on weekends depending upon the grade of play. The St Patrick’s Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ Hockey group play within the Northern Hockey Association rosters. Levies apply to cover membership to the Hockey Association with the Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ providing some assistance with fees.

Netball

Netball is offered to girls in Years 7-12. The Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ fields many teams with the Juniors playing Saturday mornings at Hoblers Bridge in the Northern High Schools’ roster. The Senior 1sts and 2nds play in the NSATIS roster that requires travel to the North West coastal schools. All practice sessions are held at the Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ after school during the week and before school at times for the Senior teams.

Soccer

The Â鶹¶ÌÊÓƵ´«Ã½ fields both Year 7/8 and Senior teams in NSATIS rosters.

Year 7 and 8 games are played Friday afternoon. The Senior 1st and 2nds soccer games are played on Saturday mornings with the roster involving some Wednesday afternoon games against North West Coast schools and Monday or Wednesday games against Launceston Christian School.
